The Story of Stained-glass maker

The Story of Stained-glass maker

There was once a stained-glass maker famous all over the France. He could obtain the most gay, bright and magnificent colours of the glass sheets - there were a real joy hidden inside his pieces of glass. Shapes made by him were as if alive. His saints were subtle, his holy babies were radiating real warmth. Everybody liked to say a prayers being lit in the light of his stained-glass. The churches and cathedrals decorated by him had an opinion of full with hope. That man however tried to improve the colours af his glass - it was his desire and it grew more and more inside his mind. Little by little it became his obsession and a sin took root inside his soul - at last he descried that his famous, coloured joy disappeared. The colours of his stained - glass windows was as if broken and went grey. In the dark interior of the cathedral he turned sad and all the while he felt very old and worn out. He lost heart to his job and eventually took firmly grasp of the big hammer, climbed up to the window he filled with his stained glass and destroyed it furiously. Looking through empty window frame he noticed an excellent sunlight of late afternoon - moreover the air carried beautiful smell of ripened vine and there were a magnificent mountainous landscape in front of his eyes. He became aware, that all his endeavors to obtain better colour of his imperfect stained glass were absolutely useless in comparison with the real sunlight and the beauty of the world - the only what had any sense was to be glad over colours he could create easily, because they were given by God himself for free! He burst our of laughing and since that time a joy has reappeared in his stained-glass windows. He could pass on his joy - he could create nothing himself!
